HOMEINTERVIEWGALLERYVIDEO

First Interview..... Of many we hope.

1: Your Name?

  A: ZARA PHYTHIAN

2: Your location ?

A: NOTTINGHAMSHIRE - WWW.PERSONALBESTACADEMY.COM

3: Which Martial Art/s do you do?

A: Ok.. I have studied Shotokan Karate and study Tae Kwon Do

Kicboxing, freestyle karate, wu shu, TCFS, Weapons and Weapons Combat basically I cross train a lot.

4: How long have you trained and what belt / rank are you now?

A: I've been training for 20 years now, mostly cross training although I started my first few years as a little one in    Shotokan karate, the ranks I currently hold are - 4th Dan Kickoxing, Freestyle Karate, 3rd Dan TKD, 3rd Dan San    Ryu Do, Phase 1 Instructor TCFS, 2nd dan Shotokan karate, 1st Degree Yi Tsung Shaolin Wu Shu

5: Why did you start?

A: Actually as a 6 year old my father took me to my first karate class basically just to get me involved in some kind of     sport, my family (sisters) are swimmers, very good too :) but for some reason i just took to martial arts. It was only    as an early teen that i got into the sport side of things through TKD, Freestyle Karate and Kickboxing and as an    adult i am more into the realistic self defence aspects of the arts as well as sport.

6: Do you prefer to use your hands, feet or other body part to strike?

A: It just depends on if its sport or reality, so i'll try and answer that as best i can... Sport wise even though i'm known     for a clinical rib breaking side kick haha seriously its my hands i prefer , especially a blitz punch combo, for reality     martial arts / self defence I just prefer anything that works stand up or ground, I prefer stand up and muscle tears,     head butts, just nasty no nonsense destruction ( Honestly I'm not violent though lol)

I am happy not to put that to the test Zara...Moderator :)

7: Favorite technique?

A: I pretty much covered that in previous question I think, have to say though whilst performing forms or shows          The side kick, but when delivering to an opponent then knock outs from the hands is my thing :)

8: In your own opinion, what is your most dangerous weapon?

A: hmm tough one... if you let me in your guard be careful of the right hook ha ha, and the head butt.. no seriously,     it's whatever works within the situation you face, be it sport or reality

9: Have you ever had to use your art in self defence?

A:   Yes unfortunatly I have had to defend myself against a man, although successful I prefer to keep it as a       learning curve rather than talk about the attack in detail, I learnt that no matter how well I defended, I still       needed to learn responsibilty for my actions and skills etc. I ended up looking like the agressor and he the poor       victim. I learned a lot from that night, that's all I'm saying about that ....

I can only imagine that he would want to forget that night as well :) Moderator.

10: List any titles or competitions you have won.

A: There are a few, but my main ones I would say ...

IKK Hall of Fame inductee 2006

     World traditional Forms Champion

     World Musical Forms Champion

     World Point Fighting Champion

     World Light Continuous Champion

     World CSW Champion

Arnold S Games Triple Grand Champion

Battle of Columbus World Poomse Champion

BOC Worlds Open 8 Gold Titles

USA Title Belt Championship x 4

WOMAA Triple Ring World Grand Champion

Been quite inactive then :)  Moderator...and just kidding ! :(

ALSO: These days I don't compete though, these are all former titles, what with my focus on my academy , my students and hopefully a film career , I just dont compete internationally anymore, but i do love the movie and tv industry which has filled the challenge of competing nicely :)
